Brian J. Fernandez, JD, CPA
Partner, Managing Member, ShareholderBrian joined Matter in 2007, and has more than two decades of experience in the accounting and tax planning, legal, and investment professions. His move to Matter was sparked by a desire to serve families more comprehensively and strategically, and he remains passionate about that aspect of our work. He has spent the majority of his career helping families navigate the opportunities and complexities of multigenerational wealth, and he can think of no better place to do it than at Matter.
As a managing member and partner, Brian is responsible for leading our firm’s operating and financial activities and overseeing legal and risk. He also serves on the board of managers and the wealth planning & coordination committee. These roles allow him to balance his work supporting Matter families with his focus on our business and helping to lead and evolve our firm.
A St. Louis native, Brian attended St. Louis University and St. Louis University School of Law and began his tax career at PricewaterhouseCoopers before transitioning to practice tax and estate planning law at Husch & Eppenberger.
Brian is involved in several organizations in the St. Louis Community, including YPO St. Louis, where he serves on the executive committee; the St. Louis Sports Commission Board of Directors; Social Venture Partners, where he serves as Lead Volunteer for an SVP-supported organization; and the St. Louis University High School Alumni Board. His commitment to these organizations gives Brian the opportunity to support and participate in a variety of experiences, from local and global business and philanthropic groups to regional sports and education.
Brian likes to spend his free time outdoors with his wife, son, and daughter, enjoying any type of sport or spending time at the lake. As the youngest of eleven children, he feels most at home with family. Gathering with 50 to 100 family members to celebrate a big holiday—or simply a birthday—is always a priority for Brian.
