Ryan M. Blackburn, CFP®, CAP®Partner, Managing Member
In 2007, after three years in corporate finance with GE, Ryan’s search for meaningful client relationships led him to Matter. A graduate of Wake Forest University with a BS in analytic finance, he earned his CFP® designation shortly after joining Matter and specializes in supporting multigenerational families, with a particular passion for leading them through complex estate and tax-planning strategies. Ryan moved from St. Louis to Dallas in 2018 to help start our firm’s newest office and works with Matter families across the country.
One of our four managing members, Ryan also sits on Matter’s wealth planning & coordination committee and oversees our people team. His interest in philanthropy led him to earn the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® designation in 2019, which complements his technical skills and enables him to advise families on meaningful giving strategies that enhance their financial plans.
Ryan’s leadership qualities and desire to give back to people and community reach beyond his professional life. While in St. Louis, he spent a decade serving on the boards of the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition, helping to further their work finding forever homes for children in need. Ryan was recently appointed as the community volunteer events chair on the Working Faith board at Highland Park United Methodist Church, in Dallas.
When he’s not working with Matter families, volunteering, or spending time with his wife and two daughters, Ryan thrives on travel and athletics—especially when he can combine the two. He has explored five of the seven continents in search of adventure, and his athletic interests have led to many triathlons, marathons, and even an Ironman. One of his proudest accomplishments was crossing the finish line at the 121st Boston Marathon.
