Matter Team
Charlie Willhoit
Charlie founded IWP Family Office in 2005 and now serves as Matter’s CEO. He focuses on driving strategic initiatives, promoting our thriving company culture, expanding the firm’s reach, and collaborating with client teams to solve complex challenges. Known around the office for his humor, humility, and genuine curiosity, Charlie believes the best thing about working at Matter is the people—both clients and colleagues. He’s inspired by the opportunity to learn from every client he meets and feels he’s gained “several lifetimes worth of knowledge” through their stories.
Charlie began his career as an analyst at JP Morgan, working in the institutional equity research department covering Internet infrastructure companies in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. He went on to acquire part of a multi-family office in Boston before founding IWP Family Office in 2005. His professional path – and his personal experience as a client – helped shape Charlie’s vision for IWP. He came to understand that, “Everyone wants to manage money, but no one really wants to help with the often overwhelming and time-consuming realities of having wealth,” and created IWP to fill that void.
Charlie founded his own 501(c)(3) that simplifies charitable giving by allowing donors to support the largest and most efficient charities across multiple causes with a single donation. He also works directly with several other charitable organizations, including Horizons Colorado, an organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for underserved students, and Community Solutions, of the nation’s largest nonprofits focused on solving housing challenges.
Outside of the office, Charlie enjoys fly fishing, golf, travel, and spending time with his family. Charlie graduated from Boston College with a BA in economics and concentrations in finance and political science. He holds a Series 65 license.
