Kate Awbrey, JD
DirectorKate joined Matter’s St. Louis office in 2019, after working at a shared family office for four years. Prior to her time in the family office space, Kate worked in a client service role at a large brokerage firm. Her people skills, attention to detail, and law background make her a great fit for our client teams and an insightful member of Matter’s wealth planning & coordination committee. She enjoys helping families navigate the complexities of life and wealth, particularly when they involve tax and estate challenges.
Kate earned her BS in finance from the University of Missouri and attended St. Louis University for her JD, with a focus on taxation and estate planning. She is passionate about animal welfare and sits on the board of Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic, a St. Louis nonprofit that provides low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services for pets to help reduce overpopulation and euthanasia in local shelters.
When she’s not at Matter, Kate loves to be with her family, exploring St. Louis restaurants, parks, and attractions, like the Zoo and Botanical Garden. She finds that life’s simple pleasures—playing with her daughter, cheering for the Cowboys and Cardinals with her husband, and walks with Winston the dog—are the moments she treasures most.
